Day 90 - 04 Mar.2012 - Aberdeen
It felt like middle of the night when we got up to get our stuff down and to get a taxi as by now Gileno has not showed up. We were with all our luggage down at the carpark and Jacqueline was on her way to get a taxi tat Gileno drove up the entrance way. Well that was certainly last minute! we squeezed all our luggage into the Fiat Uno - amazing what you could get into this car! - and said good bye to Jacqueline. Another sad moment but I think we were still too sleepy to be really sad. We got to the airport and checked all our bags in. Luckily they were routed all the way to Aberdeen o that we do not have to bother wit them on our way. A last caffezinho at the restaurant, said another good bye to Gileno and then off we went through the security check.
The rest of the trip is pretty uneventful apart from the little issue at Madrid airport where they confiscated our Cachaça in the sealed bag, which we bought for our friends at the airport of São Paulo. It turns out that there is some silly rule in place where you can not take liquids purchased in a duty free shop outside the EU on a connecting flight. It was fine to take it into Spain but not on a further flight. Makes me wonder which European bureaucrat dreamt up tat silly rule.
So after a more than 24 hr flying marathon we arrived back in Aberdeen and even all our bags showed up on the belt when we collected them.
We got home by taxi thinking what we could get to eat, as our fridge at home was completely empty. We opened the door and to our surprise our friends Luca and Catherine, who looked after our flowers in the flat, did some shopping for us with a full fridge and bread. What a fantastic welcome back at home!
Here finished our trip after 90 days through South America. A truly amazing trip with fantastic experiences. It is good to be back home but it is a shame that the trip is over now.
Here ends as well our blog. We will try to publish a summary page with "The Best Of" things and other facts from the trip and prepare a slideshow with the best pictures. But first we have to go trough all the 13,000 pictures, bin half of them and ten select the best ones.
But that comes later.
