Day 89 - 03 Mar.2012 - Recife

Our last day in Brazil. Yesterday Gileno got a surprise phone call from Josemar, an old friend of ours and we arranged to meet today (he actually never mentioned why he called in the first place, may be it was just intuition).
Gileno had to travel to Triunfo today and so we were without wheels as he took the family car with him.
In the afternoon we went with Jacqueline by taxi to the historic part of Olinda and arranged with Josemar to meet us there. The old part of Olinda is located on a hill close to the sea and from the top you have a fantastic view back to Recife and the old town of Olinda. This part of Olinda is declared world heritage site by the UNO and dates back to the early colonisation days of South America. To see everything we needed more than just an afternoon but we have to leave as well something for our next visit. At 5 we met Josemar and we drove to his home in Pao Amarelo. As it is quite out of town, the houses here are more like bungalow style with a garden and we sat down at a bit wooden table in his outdoor kitchen with original clay oven. It was a real feast what he had prepared. Feijoada, BBQ and seafood. And fantastic Italian wine brought over from his Italian fiends. The plan was tat Gileno would join us in the evening and we would ten all drive back home to pack. But as usual wit Gileno, things are turning out to be different. He did not show up and we had to flag down a taxi from the main street where Josemar left us. All in all not the greatest deal if it wasn't our last evening and we still had to pack for the next morning to go to the airport at the unpleasant hour at 6 AM. We got home, and Jacqueline had to pay the salty taxi bill as by now we did not have any more money left. We did not expect to spend that much on our last hours in Brazil. Back at home the late night frenzy of packing our luggage started. We fell to bed way after midnight for a couple of hours sleep before we embarked on our flight marathon from Recife via São Paulo, Madrid, London back to Aberdeen.
