Day 79 - 22 Feb.2012 - Búzios

Today was jet another beach day. We could not just leave this paradise without further exploring it. We got up relatively early compared to our late standards and after a nice breakfast at the veranda of the house went to the nearby beach. As expected, we were by far not alone there, but after all it is still high season weekend. We had a walk along the water front and stopped to have a cold beer and coconut water sitting in the shade on wooden beach chairs. We gazed onto the water watching people walking past and jumped into the relatively cold water compared to the warm seas at Paraty which is protected by all the islands in front of the coastline. It was mid afternoon when we went back to the house for a snack followed by a siesta in the hammock.
At the end of the afternoon, still half dozy from the nap, we took a van into the town centre of Búzios. Several big cruise liners were lying in the bay in front of Búzios. Probably by now, early evening, most of its tourists were shipped back onboard leaving the centre of Búzios and its lovely beach promenade less crowded. As we walked along, we found the famous bronze statue of Brigitte Bardot, who lived here in the 60’s when Búzios was still a small fishing village. Next to her sits Juscelino Kubichek (Brazilian President from 1956 to 1961) in bronze with his hand raised as to greet somebody. We could not resist taking some tourist pictures sitting on Brigitte’s lab and doing hi-five with JK. To finish the day off, we had dinner in "The Aquarium" a fish-tank like glass box right at the beach with romantic views over the bay of Búzios.
