Day 78 - 21 Feb.2012 - Búzios

The plan was to get up early today, pack the bags and drive to Santa Teresa to see the "Carmelitas" but laziness took over once again. First of all, we did not get up early and then there was no way of packing all our bags on time. So it looked like we are going to act like a real Carioca (citizens of Rio) and have a last minute change to the plan and end up not going. Now that we have lost the time slot to see the carnivals group, we decided to spend the morning at the pool and play with Pedro, the little boy from Karen & Renato.
The plan was to go to Búzios, but as the long carnival weekend still dragged on, there was a high chance that we would not find any hotel or pousada to stay. This is probably the busiest time of the year there. Luckily, Renato’s mum has a friend who lives there who is currently in Canada. A couple of phone calls later they organised a place to stay for us at the house of Renato’s mum’s friend. We were to meet the housekeeper in Búzios to get the keys.
After a long and sad good-bye we left and took the road again at 4 in the afternoon. It is only a couple of hours dive to Búzios and the main traffic was coming our way anyway. We crossed the bridge over the Guanabara Bay connecting Rio with Niteroi and drove the dual carriage way to Búzios. We met the key keeper and went to the house. A lovely small house compared to the big mansion we stayed in Rio but more than big enough for the two of us. We made ourselves at home and went for some basic shopping and some dinner. Despite our set rule not to have pizza again on our trip, we ended up having a pizza indeed. It was all right but only that. When we came back to our temporary holiday home we went straight to bed.
