Day 71 - 14 Feb.2012 - Peruibe
It was raining when we got up. Not a great start to set out on a sightseeing trip. After breakfast it was still raining and the girl at the reception said that the forecast for the day would be like this. We decided to reduce the sightseeing trip to the things we could do by car and packed the bags to check out of the hotel – with hope that further to the coast the weather would be better.
The Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba is really worth seeing. It is not a museum about the architect but rather a museum of contemporary art built by Oscar Niemeyer. We spent some hours in the museum and after that we fought our way to the inter-state road BR-116 direction São Paulo. It is the same road we took on our way down and most of it goes through the breath-taking Serra Atlántica, a hilly area covered with dense forest.
Some kilometres before we would have entered the craziness of São Paulo we left the BR-116 and took a road down to the coast direction Peruibe.
We found a nice pousada with sea view and went for a walk along the beach. The weather here was indeed different to the one in Curitiba. Peruibe seemed to be one of the beach holiday towns for the people from São Paulo although more down to earth and less posh than the villages along the coast between Santos and Rio. When we arrived the town was still relatively quiet but preparations for the carnival were already under way. By Friday evening this place will be heaving as well. |
