Day 57 - 31 Jan.2012 - Santiago de Chile

Today was a sightseeing day in Santiago. As the night dragged on a bit yesterday, we had a late start today and one of us had a further lay in till the afternoon. Later on we met with Javier and his brother again for lunch, or rather late lunch. I visited the Calle London 40, a building with a sad past, where the regime opponents during the military regime were tortured ands walked up the hill of Cerro Santa Lucia.
We had a stroll through the neighbourhood of Alameda, the centre of Santiago and went up the Cerro San Cristóbal from where you have a fantastic view over the city. Santiago is sitting on a plain with the Andes to the east and the costal mountains of the National Park of La Campana.
But as with all big cities, you would need more time to fully explore the city. We leave the rest for the next time.
On our way back home from the pub we passed by the presidential palace where in 1973 the president Salvador Allende was “bombed” out of office and the military dictatorship took over.
