Day 20 - 25 Dec.2011 - VacaríaToday is Christmas Day. The weather turned bad and it rained since the early morning. Olav woke up way earlier tan me, as usual, and prepared a lovely breakfast. As much as we would have loved to go to the beach we had to give it amiss because of the rain. After breakfast we cleaned he flat, packed, returned the key to the porter and set off through the rain. We had a really relaxed drive as there was not much traffic on the roads. From the city of Florianopolis we drove up to the Atlantic High Plateau direction Lages and stayed over night Vacaría 100km south of Lages. A place you would normally drive past without stopping, unless, like us, you have to stay for the night to continue your way the following day. Vacaria is an agricultural town surrounded by many fruity and wine fazendas. We had our Christmas dinner in the restaurant across the road from our hotel. Well…the wine was good. It is actually strange that you can not easily find Brazilian wine in Europe but it could be that, as in Germany, the quality wine production is targeted at the national market rather than export. We walked back to our hotel at around 10PM, wrote a couple of pages in our diary and fell asleep in this middle of nowhere place. We could have had a nicer spot for our Christmas dinner, but regrettably ended up there due to our mistake. But more about this in our tomorrow’s entry. |
