Day 15 - 20 Dec.2011 - Brasília

Today we had a bit of a lay in as so far noting urgent was going to happen. We were supposed to get a lift from our friend Gileno back to the garage to avoid another salty taxi bill but he only showed up at about lunchtime. We went back to the garage, paid for the service and head off to have lunch together with Gileno and his secretary Isabella, who gave us a lift to the garage. We were really surprised how cheap the bill at the garage was (about £20) as everything else here in Brasília seems to be at least UK prices if not more expensive. Now that we had a car again we set off on our own sight seeing tour. We started at the cathedral and its impressive architecture. Having stayed inside for a while, we were planning to move on when it started to rain again. We had waited for another half an hour and eventually decided that outside sightseeing is a no-go for the rest of the day as the weather was back to its usual self and the sky threw buckets of water yet again. Defeated we went back home.
Later on in the evening we met with Gileno and his son Pedro for dinner at Boteco. It was allright but we were really shocked about the prices there. We had beer and some snacks for about 250 Reais (almost £100)! Half a pint of beer was about £2! This is even difficult to achieve in London. Tonight we realised that if you want to go out in Brasilia you better have deep pockets!
