Day 11 - 16 Dec.2011 - Barreiras

Today was a travel day again. Our destination is the Chapada dos Veadeiros but for today we only travelled till Barreiras. On our way we again crossed the mighty “Velho Chico”, the river São Francisco, which we already crossed earlier on at the border between Alagoas and Sergipe. Although it is much further inland here, the size of the river at this stage is already considerably big. After 532 km of BR-242 we arrived in Barreiras at the back of 4 in the afternoon after 6 hours of driving. Our guide book suggested the pousada Rancho Verde where we stayed for the night. The place next to the pool with a mild early evening breeze was just too inviting to stay. A mistake especially Ania regretted later on when she realised all the mosquito bites she got because she was wearing short trousers and flip-flops. As the town did not appear to be very touristic, we decided to have a lazy evening in the hotel and caught up with some writing of our travel diary.

Holy Sunshine batman - it's freezing in Aberdeen. I'm glad we don't have sunshine here. I'd have to wash my shorts and clean the sand out my flip-flops. No, we will just keep drinking whisky to counteract the cold temperatures. You must be getting loads of Vitamin D and sun wrinkles round the eyes. Sounds terrible. Glad to hear you are safe on your way.
